Sprinter Sacre
Age: 6
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Novice Chase Wins: 3
After trouncing the well thought after Polisky in a novices' hurdle at Ascot, Sprinter Sacre headed to the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival as one of Nicky Henderson's leading hopes for the race alongside Spirit Son.
However, after hitting the front turning for home, he was duly picked up by eventual winner Al Ferof and Spirit Son in what was a very creditable performance and it showed that the youngster had tremendous ability and was a horse to watch over timber.
So, all eyes were on the Seven Barrows inmate when he made his chasing debut at Doncaster in December and he didn't disappoint as he showed class over his fences when storming to a 24-length success.
His reputation then went sky high on December 27 as he produced a magical performance to get the better of Arkle Betting rival Peddlers Cross, with a 16-length trouncing of the Donald McCain-trained runner. The pizzazz he showed over his fences linked with his fantastic cruising speed saw him break Peddlers Cross early and he duly hacked up to become an instant favourite for the 2012 Arkle on March 13.
A facile success in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury in mid-February enhanced his reputation even more as he trounced stablemate French Opera as he jumped and galloped to victory with ease.
