Arkle Trophy 2006 Result

The 2006 race saw the true emergence of the Alan King trained Voy Por Ustedes. The horse won a highly competitive race from Monet’s Garden and at the time it was fifth straight victory over fences.

Jockey Choc Thornton was in great form in the race and he had told trainer that Monet’s Garden would not be quick enough to take on his mount. How right he proved to be. Voy Por Ustedes took up the running on the final bend and had too much in the tank for the rest. Monet’s Garden ran quickly throughout but was going as quick at the end as he was at the first and it was probably his one pace that ended his chances. The third horse home was Foreman, trained in France by Thierry Doumain. He simply was not up to the pace of the first two, but ran a great race considering it was his first effort over the Cheltenham Festival fences.

Pre-race favourite was the Henrietta Knight trained, Racing Demon, but he only managed a distant seventh place, clearly not suited by the pace or the short trip. Noel Meade’s, Wild Passion was 4th. 2009 Arkle Trophy Champion Chase Free bet.
