Cue Card

Cue Card

Age: 6

Trainer: Colin Tizzard

Novice Chase Wins: 2

After bursting on to the scene at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival with a magnificent performance in the Champion Bumper, Cue Card was always going to be a horse to keep an eye on, whatever sphere of the national hunt game he would take part in.

However, defeat in the 2011 Supreme Novices' Hurdle saw trainer Colin Tizzard hand his stable star a novice chasing campaign in the 2011/2012 season and he got off to the perfect start.

Heading to Chepstow on his chasing debut, Cue Card produced a brilliant display of jumping to storm to success beating the classy duo of Micheal Flips and Silviniaco Conti, to propel himself into the Arkle 2012 Betting.

He was then sent back to Cheltenham where the clash of the novice chasing season would take place, where he would take on the mighty Grands Crus.  However, the matchup never materialised as Cue Card made a few mistakes and down the back straight, finally got rid of Joe Tizzard to leave punters wondering, what might have been.

Nevertheless, he made a quick reappearance at Newbury and looked to get the better of Albert Bartlett winner Bobs Worth, but Nicky Henderson's raider had too much stamina and eventually prevailed by a short-heard.

Quick to emerge again, Tizzard's gelding then bagged glory in a competitive contest at Newbury on December 31, where he beat For Non Stop, who ran Al Ferof close, by four lengths and also Walkon in a decent display.

He showed a lot more poise over his fences and a possible return to two miles come March 13 could be ideal and he could be a lively outsider for the likes of Peddlers Cross and Al Ferof, who currently head the market.
