Arkle Chase Trainers

The Arkle Trophy Chase has seen a number of trainers specialising in the race.  Martin Pipe won in successive years with Or Royal and Champleve in 1997 and 1998. He then won a further twice with the brilliant Well Chief who won in 2004, followed by Contraband in the following year.

Northern based trainer, Peter Easterby trained three winners of the race, Alverton in 1978, Clayside in 1981 and Ryeman in 1983, whilst other leading names in the training ranks to have lifted the two mile crown include the legendary Fulke Walwyn and David Nicholson.

Of the current trainers, Cheltenham Festival specialist, Nicky Henderson has three wins, including the great Remittance Man in 1991, Travado in 1993 and Tiutchev in 2000.

Current leading trainer, Paul Nicholls has two wins in the race with Flagship Uberalles taking the honours in 1999 and Azertyuiop in 2003.  Alan King trained a brace of winners in the mid-2000's as he teamed up with Robert Thornton to win with My Way de Solzen in 2007 and Voy Por Ustedes in 2006.

Irish trainers have a decent record in the Arkle with Jessica Harrington's Moscow Flyer arguably one of the greatest winners to come out of the Emerald Isle, whilst Tom Cooper's Forpadydeplasterer and Henry De Bromhead's Sizing Europe another classy pair of winners.

However, in the current 2012 Arkle Betting, Donald McCain, who is looking to win his first title on March 13, has the favourite with the classy Peddlers Cross, whilst Nicholls' Al Ferof is another contender sitting towards the head of the market for the crown.
